2026 date to be advised
The George Open Gardens project was initiated by friends of BADISA in 2010 and is an important fundraising event for the George branch. The event is held each year in early summer. The date for George Open Gardens 2026 will be announced soon.
Come enjoy a stunning day being inspired, entertained and refreshed. George Open Gardens is an opportunity to swap garden tips, ideas and stories with like-minded folk.
Thank you to the George business owners, particularly of our local nurseries, who help publicise the event by placing posters, and sharing on their social media.

Tickets will also be available to buy with cash only on the Saturday at one of the anchor gardens.
You’ll receive a ticket and the directions to, and descriptions of, all the open gardens.
What happens if it rains on the day?
Gardens love rain, and we really do need it in the Garden Route even though George has a reputation as being ‘Cold and Wet’. If we are blessed with rain, the event will carry on as planned, so wear appropriate clothing and come along anyway.
What can be expected?
The gardens, generously opened up to the public by their owners, reflect a variety of gardening spaces ranging from small retirement living gardens to large smallholding and farm gardens. There is something for everyone to enjoy, and to take away tips and ideas.
What about refreshments? And bathroom facilities?
A few gardens have bathroom facilities available. It’s best to check the list of gardens beforehand.
Refreshments are usually available at one or two gardens. And some have tables and seating where you can enjoy your bring-your-own picnic.
Can I take cuttings? And are there plants on sale?
A few of the gardens have small nurseries and plants may be on sale on the day. Please don’t take cuttings or anything from the garden without first asking the owner.
Can I nominate a garden?
Yes, if you know of an interesting, beautiful or unusual garden for next year’s event, please send an email to us at info@georgeopengardens.co.za.
